Touchette Regional Hospital (TRH) announced today that it will partner with Envision Physician Services, effective Dec. 1, 2017. Envision Physician Services is a leading national provider for the management services and physician staffing of TRH’s Emergency Department.
“We are very pleased to begin this partnership with Envision Physician Services and to continue our commitment to provide the highest quality of emergency care to this region,” said Sulbrena Day, PhD, chief operating officer of TRH.
TRH completed the renovation and expansion of their Emergency Department in January 2015 to include bedside registration, a centralized patient monitoring system, larger rooms and private holding areas. Day said TRH’s initial priorities with Envision are to build on these Emergency Department improvements by enhancing patient flow for faster and more efficient service for patients. “Creating the best possible patient experience is at the top of our list,” added Day.

Also effective Dec. 1, Richard Shaffer, M.D. will assume the role of medical director at TRH’s Emergency Department. Shaffer completed his medical training at St. Georges University and his residency at St Louis University’s Family Medicine Residency at the Belleville Family Health Center operated by SIHF Healthcare (formerly Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation). Shaffer was the chief resident of the residency program in 2014-2015. Since completion of his training he has been working as an emergency room and Hospitalist physician at Redbud Regional Hospital, and has been a part-time physician in the emergency room at TRH.
Day added, “Dr. Shaffer is a capable and enthusiastic leader who will work very hard to collaborate with our emergency department providers, nursing, medical staff and hospital administration to continue to help the entire team move the emergency department in a positive direction.”
Shaffer will be supported in his role by the Envision team of Jason Kole, M.D., regional medical director; Mark Canada, RN, director of clinical services and Robert McCurren, M.D., senior vice president.
TRH continues to look for ways to improve the overall patient experience and to serve as a reliable provider of quality care in the region. The hospital received the 2016 Salute to Southwestern Illinois Award from the Leadership Council Southwestern Illinois for its leadership in the region. In addition, Avatar Solutions honored TRH for its patient experience accomplishments in 2015 by awarding the hospital the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) Best Performer - Quietness of the Hospital Environment for Medium Hospital.
