EXTRAORDINARY NURSE RECOGNIZED AT TOUCHETTE REGIONAL HOSPITAL

November 29, 2022

Janiece Chatman, RN, at Touchette Regional Hospital was recently honored with The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.

The nomination submitted read, “My daughter came into the ER in pain, and Jan took exceptional care of her. She was calm, caring, comforting, and treated her like her own child. My daughter was nervous and scared, and Jan made her feel better.”

Kiyoko Guthrie, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer, noted: “We know that Jan is an outstanding and extraordinary nurse, but it is wonderful to see that our patients and their families are able to see that too. We are very proud of her and are excited that she was the recipient of our very first DAISY Award here at Touchette.”

The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, CA, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes.  Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease.  The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.

Nomination forms are available at the main entrance to Touchette or can be made online at https://touchette.org/patients-and-visitors/daisy-award-for-nurses. More information on the DAISY Award and the DAISY Foundations is available at http://DAISYfoundation.org.
