Touchette Regional Hospital Reminds the Public of its START NOW Breast & Cervical Cancer Awareness Program During Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October 5, 2018

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Touchette Regional Hospital (TRH) is reminding the public of its START NOW Breast & Cervical Cancer Awareness program.

“The first step to better breast health is education and early detection,” said Debra Custer, START NOW program manager and treatment navigator. “Through this program, we provide support and knowledge to women and even men, ages 40+. Individuals enrolled in START NOW have seen just how critical breast and cervical cancer screenings can be; they can end up saving their lives.”

Women and men in underserved communities have fewer opportunities to learn about the signs and effects of breast and cervical cancer, which leads to higher mortality rates from the disease. START NOW offers services to assist individuals with and through the screening process; they provide continuous care for each individual.

“Through the generous support of our funders, we’ve educated more than 20,000 individuals about the importance of early cancer detection,” Custer added.

START NOW receives funding through Susan G. Komen Missouri and the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade Foundation offering breast health services to women in Madison, St. Clair and Clinton counties.
