Nurse Residency Program

Designed to help student nurses and new graduate nurses transition from a school environment into practice. This Nurse Residency Program provides a safe learning environment with guiding principles of critical thinking and accountability. Touchette Nurse Residency Program (TNRP) helps the student nurse and the new graduate nurse grow into a confident and seasoned professional through a 12-month educational pathway.

The program involves a rigorous clinical and didactic training period that prepares the student nurse and the new graduate nurse for real-life scenarios. The curriculum is designed to enrich and compliment the nurses' education, address disease-process protocols and incorporate techniques and tips for prioritization, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.

The training involves monthly classes and hands-on practice so that the student nurse and the new graduate nurse become familiar with the technology and equipment used at Touchette Regional Hospital. This program is the start of a journey from knowledge to knowing while moving towards competent and safe performance at the bedside.

This program offers:

  • Nurse residency classes that are designed to build and strengthen the knowledge, skill, the attitude of critical thinking, clinical judgment, and confidence.
  • Student nurses and new graduates work alongside experienced nurses who enjoy teaching and have voluntarily been trained to work as preceptors.
  • Continued support, coaching, and encouragement from the TNRP leadership team after completion of nursing orientation.
  • A sense of community through opportunities to get to know other new graduate nurses.
