Touchette Regional Hospital Raises Heart Health Awareness

February 5, 2019

Touchette Regional Hospital (TRH) is raising awareness of the importance of heart health. This comes as February is American Heart Month.

The heart is the most important organ, its workload never stops. It beats 24-hours a day, 365 days a year - pushing blood throughout the body. Individuals should take their heart health seriously at every age.

“The earlier you begin paying attention to your heart, the better off you’ll be,” says TRH Cardiologist Roop Lal, MD. “I would encourage those in their 20s and 30s, to start seeing a doctor, have annual wellness exams conducted, and become aware of any family history that could lead to genetic diseases or illnesses.”

As individuals approach their 40s, 50s and enter their 60s, it’s recommended to engage in daily cardiovascular and strength training workouts, adjust diet and nutrition plans, regularly check blood pressure, and learn the warning signs of a heart attack and stroke.

Lal adds, “If the heart fails, the result could be fatal. It’s never too late to become heart healthy - and our team can help you learn where you stand.”
