Rheumatology

A medical specialty used in the diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases that affect the body’s musculoskeletal system.

The rheumatology services offered through Touchette Regional Hospital include diagnosis and treatment for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases that primarily affect the body's musculoskeletal system — joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. These conditions are known collectively as systemic rheumatic diseases. Rheumatologic disorders may also affect the blood vessels, skin, nerves and most internal organs.

Patients can be seen if they need medical treatment or testing for autoimmune and inflammatory conditions, such as the following:

  • Arthritis
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Pain disorders affecting joints
  • Osteoporosis

Such treatment and screenings may include:

  • Cortisone shots
  • Synovial (joint) fluid analysis
  • Viscosupplementation Injection

If you notice anything unfamiliar with your immune system or ailments within your musculoskeletal system, have it checked by your doctor or call for an appointment to come see us.
